By the way you assholes, what the hell do you think the NBA Forum is for???

Captain, thanks for the "jump the shark" explanation.
And remember, you can't spell assuage without ass
Now, take a look at your team, vs my team. While your team has MJ sitting on the bench and fuming at Coach Cancer Stick my team has MJ and Scottie hounding Maravich and Aguirre into a combined 11-45 shooting night while being helpless to defend a laughing Jordan, who goes off for an effortless 47....

Congratulations, vito! You hit the trifecta. Three guesses, and they're ALL wrong! Props.
My authority on this subject is Irie Lagos, who was the first I saw ever use the phrase. According to IL, to jump the shark is to move past one's prime in a given area of endeavor. For instance, it might be appropriate after a few consecutive losses for one to ask, "Has Tiger jumped the shark this early in his career?"
Origin and story behind the phrase are unknown.

Ummm smackie that phrase has been around a lot longer than Tiger has been a pro. I'll cut you some slack for the memory loss though.
I realize the Greg Norman refrence you alude to, but what kind of "prime" did that fucker have?

I never said it hasn't been, just giving an example of where its use would be appropriate in the context in which I've commonly seen it on the boards. Like I said, I don't where it came from, when it started, or the significance of the shark, but I've also never seen it used to denote any of those scenarios you described.

Smackie, cool team.
How's about we let 'em play:
Iverson
MJ (or Kobe, or George Gervin)
Garnett (or Bernard King, or David Thompson)
Duncan
Kareem
otherwise known as the All Time Offense team...
AND, we could let the All Time Offense team play:
Payton
MJ
Pippen
Rodman
Russell
otherwise known as the All Time Defense team..

Gots to have some stability on D. Defense doesn't go into slumps.

Snackie, let's not confuse "never seen" with "can't remember" mmmmkay?
